Standard, recommended safety guidelines for using essential oils:
- Do not take essential oils internally (it can be very dangerous) unless professionally prescribed.
- Keep essential oils away from children.
- If you are pregnant, please be aware there are many oils you cannot use.
- Anyone with specific complaint such as asthma, heart conditions, epilepsy, allergies should avoid some essential oils. If you have any doubt, pleas seek professional advice.
- If you are taking medicine, some essential oils may reduce their effect. Ask physician.
- Some oils make skin more sensitive when exposed to direct sunlight.
- Citrus oil can cause discolouration of the skin when expose to direct sunlight.
- Essential oils are flammable.
- If your skin becomes sensitive to any oils, please stop using it
- Most oils should be diluted
- Remember, consulting your doctor if you are not sure of using. Essential oils must be handled with care.
- If you are allergy prone, test the oil by applying it (one small drop in 2.5 mL of vegetable oil) to your arm. If there is nor reaction (swelling or irritation) after 12 hours, the oils should be safe to use. Otherwise do not use it.
